For the eighth consecutive year, Armstrong is proud to launch Avenge Hunger Month, a community-wide effort to fight hunger across our service areas. This year’s collection window runs from August 25 through October 5, 2025, aligning with National Hunger Action Month in September.

Avenge Hunger Month was created in 2018 as part of Armstrong’s Breaking Bread initiative, which began in 2010 to fight food insecurity in the communities we serve. The idea started when Armstrong staff combined a community food drive with the movie release of Avengers: Infinity War. The superhero-inspired theme caught on quickly, sparking the creation of the Breaking Bread Man and Breaking Bread Lady, our own hunger-fighting heroes, and officially launched the first Avenge Hunger Month.

Since then, the campaign has grown into a major annual event! Over the past seven years, together with our customers, schools, and community partners, we’ve collected:

  • Nearly 194,000 pounds of food
  • Over $114,000 in monetary donations
  • More than 575 volunteer hours

You may be asking, how does Avenge Hunger Month work? Well, during Avenge Hunger Month, each of Armstrong’s 13 local systems, along with our Customer Service Center and Corporate Office staff, participate in a friendly competition to see which location can collect the most food, donations, and volunteer hours! This spirited rivalry adds excitement while making a real difference for local feeding programs.

Everything that is collected goes directly to stock pantries, caring closets, and backpack programs in our communities. This directly supports over 200 community feeding programs across Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky!

Avenge Hunger Month wouldn’t be possible without the support of our customers and community partners. Here’s how you can join the fight:

  • Donate non-perishable food at your local Armstrong office or participating partner locations.
  • Giving a monetary donation — even small contributions make a big impact.
  • Support local events like community food drives, school collections, and fundraisers tied to Avenge Hunger Month.
  • Spread the word on social media using #AvengeHungerMonth to inspire others to get involved.

Food insecurity affects families, children, and seniors in every community we serve. Avenge Hunger Month shines a light on this critical issue while offering a practical way for all of us to help. With your support, we can continue to stock pantry shelves, provide meals for students, and ensure families have access to nutritious food as we head into the busy holiday and winter season.
