Trend Micro, like many anti-virus programs, offers real-time protection and will scan your computer periodically for viruses and malware. For most users, leaving the program to do these automatically is ideal. Trend Micro will learn when your computer is used most frequently and try to avoid running scans at those times to not interrupt things, but if you prefer to schedule them yourself that is of course an option.

If you select the Gear icon from the main menu, there is a Scheduled Scans section under Security & Tuneup Controls. Smart schedule is the default option, but if you select “Set a specific schedule,” you can change the frequency and time frames where scans are run; as well as what type of scan is initiated, either Quick or Full scan.

Most of the time, a Quick scan is advisable, as it scans places viruses are most often located. A Full Scan is normally reserved for when you have a suspicion that something may be on your computer, and you want to be sure every file is checked thoroughly. These may be situations where your computer is running abruptly slowly or acting strangely and restarting the computer doesn’t solve things.
