Bon Appetit! Do you remember that famous voice speaking those wonderful words? In my opinion, Julia Child’s famous “French Cooking” TV Show started the food television trend! Then came Wolfgang, Emeril and Rachel Ray.
They paved the way for the foodies of our time. As far as food on TV goes, you can find a lot more than cooking on TV today. From "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” with Guy Fiere on the Food Network to “Bizarre Foods” with Andrew Zimmerman on the Travel Channel, one element that TV is not missing is food.
To follow up on a recent
blog article about football, I decided that a food article would be the perfect pairing. Don’t get me wrong, I love to cheer on the Steelers but I’m even more excited to be in the kitchen cooking and preparing the “party food”.
Watching food related shows and preparing meals is a family event at my house. After watching all these food shows, we become inspired and head to the kitchen to make our own creations! The kids even get involved and pretend to be TV food celebrities for the night! (and even if Dad doesn’t particularly like our creation, he pretends to!)
One particular favorite of ours is “Chopped” on the Food Network. Have you seen it? It’s a cooking competition show that allows up-and-coming chef contestants to utilize their skills to make magic. The contestants are given mystery ingredients to whip up their best meal in a timed-race to the finish. They are judged on creativity, taste and presentation. If you haven’t seen it, check it out. It’s a worthwhile watch if you enjoy cooking or watching someone try to make a meal out of lamb hearts and gummy worms.
So for all you foodies out there, don’t worry, there’s more on TV than sports and Real Housewives. And… you can find all of these food shows and more right now with Armstrong. Watch on your time with Armstrong On Demand and find shows like cooking channel’s Eden Eats and Man Fire Food, Travel Channel’s wildly popular No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain or Restaurant Impossible on Food Network.
As Julia would say, “Bon Appetit!”
