Last week we started to discuss the new HDTV that may be coming into your home this holiday season. We last discussed
how to arrange your television and entertainment area. Now that you have an idea of where you are going to put the new high definition television, let's discuss getting the settings just right.
There is no point in having the nice new set if it isn't tweaked to give you the best pictures possible. Our friends at C-Net have a guide to setting up the HDTV by eye. If you have a disc, guide or setup instructions that came with the new TV, use those first. However, if you are trying to do this on your own,
give this process a try.
Follow these tips to get the Contrast, Brightness, Color, Sharpness, Backlight and Temperature set up where you want them. According to Geoffrey Morrison, Brightness will be the most difficult to get just right.
Have no doubt, this is the hardest control to eyeball. It's rarely going to look absolutely correct, and worse it may look OK on some content and not on others. You'll spend more time getting this setting right than all the others combined.
Whether this is your main TV or a secondary, follow these tips to get the settings where you feel you are getting the best viewing experience. The same goes for TVs in bedrooms or kitchens. Make sure you get the most out of them with your connection too, because an
HDTV deserves an HD connection.
