I am just as guilty as everyone else. Your mind wanders, you grab for your phone to make sure you haven't missed a message, a tweet or an email. When what you are really missing out on is life going on around you. Whether it is dinner with friends or an evening home with family, I catch myself looking at my iPhone more than I should.
I read a
Lifehacker.com article recently that highlighted a new app aimed at stopping this epidemic. How can an app help you stop looking at your phone all the time you might ask? The app is called Downside and challenges everyone at the table or gathering to turn on the app, put their phones face down and enjoy each others' company. The first person to flip their phone over for a peek, gets dinged. The rules are up to you. Maybe they get the next round of drinks, have to pick up the tab or just get shamed into being a better friend next time.
I defend the smart phone connected lifestyle all the time, but agree that it can get out of hand when you ignore the things around you. Do you think this app could help your next dinner out? Check out the video below then let us know.
