The 80s kid in me wanted to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle this weekend. However, based on a few early reviews, it looks as though Michael Bay ruined another piece of my childhood.
What was I to do? I gave my kids a choice in what movie to see and they chose the Turtles.
As I settled into the theatre with my Donatello purple 3D glasses, I realized that maybe I was over-analyzing a movie about talking turtles. When I put that aside, I was able to enjoy a really good modern version of one of my childhood favorites. The characters were spot on and the action was great. They may have taken a few liberties with the origin story, but overall it was a fun experience.
Was this really the same Michael Bay that gave us a whole bunch of bad Transformers movies? Did he just get lucky with this one? Lets just hope that he passes on the He-Man scripts that come his way.
