computeroldThis Tuesday, April 8, 2014 will mark the end of an era. Microsoft will end support for one of its most popular products, Windows XP. The 13 year old software was up until just recently, still one of the most popular operating systems being used. According to a CNet article, in July 2012 XP was the Windows operation system with the most web traffic at 42 percent. During the month of March 2014, 27 percent of all web traffic was attributed to Windows XP, down from 29 percent in February. So while it has dropped, it is still hanging on. Much of the use is attributed to businesses, presuming the difficulty associated with upgrading computers on such a high scale. Additionally, supplemental office or medical equipment can be tied directly to specific operating systems.
