The right frequency for you will depend on the specific setup of your home and connected devices. The major difference between the GHz (gigahertz) settings is that the 2.4 GHz frequency will provide greater range of Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home, while the 5 GHz frequency will provide faster connection speed to devices within close range.
Your devices will function better using the 5 GHz setting when located close to your modem, as the signal doesn’t transmit easily through doors, walls, floors, furniture, etc. If you have numerous connected devices spread throughout your home, using the range of the 2.4 GHz signal may help reach those devices easier in order to stay connected.
However, the availability to connect more devices to the 2.4 GHz signal due to the range, may lead to interference, which will hurt the performance of your Wi-Fi network. If you consume a lot of data (gaming, streaming, downloading or exporting files, etc.), the ideal setup would be to connect using the 5 GHz frequency. If your devices are wireless, place your connected devices as close to the modem as possible with the 5 GHz setup.

If you use your own wireless router for Wi-Fi:
To change the settings on your own router to switch from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz or vice-versa, you’ll need to access your router’s Graphic User Interface (GUI). The process to do this will vary by manufacturer and we recommend contacting your router manufacturer if you need additional assistance.
