Email Security

To enhance security and better protect your email account, Armstrong will be requiring customers to authenticate when sending email. Please follow the instructions below to check and update your settings to ensure there's no interruption in your email service.

Perform an Email Security Health Check

What you need to know:

To enhance security and better protect your email account, if you use an email client (Ex: Microsoft Outlook, iOS Mail app, etc.) you will soon be required to authenticate when sending email. If you do not have the correct outgoing settings setup in your email client, you may soon experience issues sending email. (Note: if you only use our website to check / send email, then you do not need to change any settings.)

Requiring Outgoing Authentication

When sending email, we will be requiring that you use your Armstrong username and password. This helps to prevent infected computers and other devices connected to Armstrong services from being able to freely transmit spam and malware. Don’t worry, you won’t have to enter your password each time you want to send an email, as your email client will save this information automatically for you once it is set up.

Port 587

Armstrong will no longer support port 25 for the transmission of email. The original/legacy email port 25 has been in use since the inception of email and has limited security features. We will be requiring customers to use Port 587 to further improve security through the use of required authentication and recommended SSL encryption. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a secure protocol for sending data safely and encrypted over the Internet. With SSL encryption your username, password, and email are secured from hackers and identity thieves when sending or receiving email.

How to check these settings:

  • Open your email app and select settings.
  • Look for Outgoing settings, enter your Zoom Internet username and password, verify your outgoing port is 587, then save your settings.
  • That's it!

Specific instructions will vary depending on the email client and version you are using. For step-by-step instructions, please click on the email client you are using below.
